Enrollment Services Troops to Teachers Troops to TeachersThe Troops to Teachers program is a transition assistance program for eligible military personnel seeking second careers as K-12 public school teachers serving low income families. Implemented in 1994, this national program is overseen and funded by the Department of Defense and managed by the Department of the Navy through the Defense Activity of Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES).

Troops to Teachers assists participants who use their experience, integrity, responsibility and global views to directly influence the minds and actions of today’s youth.Troops to Teachers provides eligible participants with two types of services: counseling and financial assistance. Counseling services include guidance on the teacher certification process, identifying employment opportunities, employment assistance workshops, and a mentoring program. Financial assistance includes a stipend for teacher certification expenses for which individuals must teach for three years at an “eligible” public or charter school, or a bonus once hired in a “high-needs” school. The stipend is not available to those who have not expended Post-9/11 GI Bill® funds.
